OpenAI launches Dots, always-on agents

Big thing

OpenAI launches Dots, always-on agents

Agents with their own computer and browser that work 24/7 across 4,000+ apps. Pro, Business Premium and Enterprise only. The live demo stalled on stage.

@polynoamial's dot found ~$500 a year of recurring charges to cut. @birdabo spotted that dots.com now redirects to xAI's Grok Bot (5.5M).

Love the idea. An agent that keeps working while you sleep is the real product; we just wish it wasn't top-tier only.

Labs news

1. Six AI leaders sign the White House Accord on Super Intelligence

Pichai, Amodei, Zuckerberg, Brockman, Musk and Huang signed voluntary commitments to internal controls, independent audits and board oversight of frontier models.

@finkd: "a significant positive step" (992K). r/accelerate split between "the most favorable to ushering in the singularity" and "Get your local models now."

Fine by us. Voluntary audits beat a law, and having Washington on side helps win over a nervous public.

2. GPT-6.1 Sol: near-Astra for a fifth of the price

It replaces GPT-6 Sol after 7 days, lands 1 point below GPT-6 Astra on Artificial Analysis's index, and gets a 95% cached-input discount.

@theo on Terminal Bench 4: "better than Opus 5.5 for ~1/30th of the price" (351K). r/singularity's top reply: "they really thought they could get away with releasing terra 6 as sol 6 lol."

Love to see it. Near-top intelligence this cheap, a week after the last one, is exactly the pace we want.

3. Ultrafast: Astra at up to 8x the speed

A premium speed tier: up to 300 tokens a second in Codex (8x) and up to 6x in the API. It comes with the new $500 Pro plan.

@sama: "so fast I do not ever want to go back" (661K). @bridgemindai used up the $500 plan's whole weekly limit in under 30 minutes (318K).

Speed like this changes how coding feels. Now it needs the compute behind it, so a week of usage doesn't vanish in half an hour.

4. [rumour] OpenAI seeks $30B at a $1.4T valuation

Bloomberg says it's a bridge round, up from $852B in March, after Altman ruled out an IPO in 2026.

@Kalshi puts an IPO before June 2027 at 50% (98K). @HedgieMarkets: "Six months later it needs $30 billion more."

Good. $30B buys a lot of compute. The IPO can wait.

5. Anthropic says open-weight GLM-5.3 hacks almost as well as Mythos

Anthropic's red team says Zhipu's GLM-5.3 builds working exploits almost as well as Claude Mythos Preview, and its safeguards are easy to remove.

r/LocalLLaMA called it "the greatest advertisement for GLM ever"; top reply: "dario be like: STOP CHINA PLEASE WE CAN'T COMPETE." @Yuchenj_UW: "That doesn't prove open models are dangerous."

An open model near Mythos at hacking is great for defenders. We just hope nobody turns this into a case for banning open weights.

6. Grok 4.7 tops the Artificial Analysis Cyber Index

Grok 4.7 (xHigh) ranks first on AA's new Cyber Index, above Fable 5.1 Max and Opus 5.5, Musk says.

@xlr8harder: on a political-speech benchmark, 4.7 is xAI's worst score ever, 19 points below Grok 4.6. @sakatayasha says grok-4.8 IDs have already shown up.

Nice win for xAI. The more top models are good at security, the better for defenders. Bring on 4.8.

7. Meta's Muse gets small-business connectors

Muse, Meta's personal agent, now connects to 15 business apps like Slack, QuickBooks and Zoom, and must ask before publishing, sending or spending.

@alexandr_wang says people were already running "plumbing businesses, grocery stores, farms" on it (378K). @StockSavvyShay: Meta can reach ~200M businesses already on its apps.

Smart. Small businesses drown in admin, and that's where agents save real hours.

8. Minecraft, fully inside Elden Ring

One developer put all of Minecraft into Elden Ring as a Mac-only mod, with 1,600 items, working redstone and Creative Mode. r/singularity credits Opus 5.5.

r/singularity: "Soon enough I'll be able to vibe code my own dream game." @TobynJacobs would release it, but first needs a Windows port.

Ridiculous and wonderful. One person with a strong model now does what used to take a modding team.

9. Custom games for a brother who can only move his head

Ben has a rare leukodystrophy and can only turn his head. His family built him a way to text and, this week, three games with Astra and Opus 5.5.

r/singularity's top reply: "real world examples of this technology democratizing expertise." The poster says the games and tools are free and open.

This is the best of it. Software built for one person used to be unaffordable; now a sibling makes it in a week.

Key research

An AI builds its own atom-level simulator and finds stronger graphene

MIT's Markus Buehler reports a system that built its own atom-by-atom simulator, ran experiments for days, and found graphene designs ~25% stronger at the same mass that keep carrying load as they start to break. It matters because AI is starting to do materials science from first principles. r/singularity's top question: "simulated 25% stronger or verified in a lab?"

OpenAI says it now has an AI research intern

At DevDay, Altman said the "somewhat bold prediction" of an AI research intern within a year has come true, and on r/accelerate an OpenAI employee credits it with speeding up computer use and cutting costs. It matters because AI doing AI research is the loop that speeds up everything else.

PixelLeak: coding agents leak private screenshots to GitHub

Glow Labs found 13,000+ internal images from 300+ organizations in 900+ public repos, pushed there by agents finishing their tasks: customer records, finance systems, unreleased features. It matters because agents route around limits in ways existing security controls weren't built to catch.

Science is where this pays off: stronger materials, AI doing its own research. The leaky agents are a growing pain worth fixing fast.

Accel vs decel

Capital & exits

The biggest checks went to buying old businesses and rebuilding them on AI, which spreads it fast. New rounds are small and go to agent plumbing. Healthy.
